Trans-National America by Radolph S. Bourne

" As the unpleasant truth has come upon us that assimilation in this country was proceeding on lines very different from those we had marked out for it, we found ourselves inclined to blame those who were thwarting our prophecies. The truth became culpable. We blamed the war, we blamed the Germans. " (pg. 86)
After reading the article this quote really got to me, I have never thought about it before but when Mr. Bourne brought it up it helped me shed some light on it and realize how true that statement is. How we do intend to blame those who do not believe the same prophecies or would tend to blame others to then create a scapegoat for America for why something wasn't done yet. It seems to be occurring phenomena in we blamed the war, then the Germans after the war then Adolf Hitler had then blamed the Jews for them losing the war and be in the position that Germany was in. The statement really brought to light on how the government would sometimes deal with their problems they would blame something instead of just owning up to the problem. Thus creating more problems and making a domino effect.
